About Us

The Rutgers Initiative on Climate and Society aims to foster collaborative, interdisciplinary research on the human and social dimensions of global climate change. Our work explores how social, economic, political, cultural, and behavioral factors drive climate change, shape impacts and vulnerabilities, and condition response strategies.

  • We promote cutting-edge research and build research capacity at Rutgers by: developing and implementing grant proposals, organizing working groups, providing networking opportunities, and seeking funding sources for research on climate change and society.
  • We conduct public outreach by providing a forum for initiative associates and external colleagues to communicate research findings and engage policymakers and the public.
  • We support education of students in the area of climate and society by encouraging the participation of Rutgers students in our activities, involving graduate students and postdocs in working groups and colloquia, hosting interns, and teaching courses on the subject in multiple disciplines and at multiple levels.

Our ultimate aim is to contribute to effective and equitable courses of action that advance both mitigation of and adaptation to climate change.
