Tristan Jones is a doctoral student in the anthropology department at Rutgers University. He received his B.A. in Literature and Sociology from Oberlin College ('07), and his M.A. in Climate and Society from Columbia University ('10). He was raised on a sheep farm in central Virginia, and lived in New York City for four years before enrolling at Rutgers. While in NY, Tristan founded a local CSA, co-founded a nonprofit dedicated to sustainable community development, served as a youth delegate to the U.N. CSD-15, wrote for the Earth Institute at Columbia University, and worked as a sustainability consultant to several private companies. His current work concerns oil sands mining in northeastern Alberta, Canada, and its effects on First Nations peoples, migrant labor, and the surrounding landscape.
