There is ample evidence that guiding policy decisions with rigorous research leads to better outcomes. So why is scientific advice frequently ignored? Resources for the Future (RFF) is delighted to welcome Dr. Marcia McNutt for an RFF Policy Leadership Forum exploring these and other crucial questions about evidence-based decisionmaking.
Dr. McNutt is a geophysicist and the 22nd president of the National Academy of Sciences. She served as editor-in-chief of Science from 2013 to 2016, and was director of the US Geological Survey from 2009 to 2013, during which time USGS responded to a number of major disasters, including the Deepwater Horizon oil spill. For her work to help contain that spill, McNutt was awarded the US Coast Guard’s Meritorious Service Medal.
