Social media has become a powerful tool for emergency managers and public safety officials during responses to severe weather and other major incidents. The University at Albany (UAlbany), in partnership with other Universities and government agencies in the United States and Taiwan, is using social media data to explore public attention, risk perception, and communication related to acute and diffuse hazards. UAlbany's student-led, expert-guided Virtual Operations Support Team (VOST) is working with emergency managers to deploy these findings directly into the field through just-in-time and after-action reporting.
