Christina Gerhardt, HMEI’s Barron Visiting Professor in the Environmental Humanities and visiting faculty in the German Department, will discuss her project, “HighWaterLine: New Jersey,” which engages the public in walking and chalking the state’s projected future shoreline to demonstrate how sea-level rise will affect New Jersey. HighWaterLine provides an opportunity to experience the future shoreline first-hand and to consider ways to address sea-level rise impacts, for example, via urban and architectural design. Gerhardt carried out a similar project in Honolulu in January 2020.

Gerhardt will join in discussion with Jerry Zee, assistant professor of anthropology and the High Meadows Environmental Institute.
