Monday, November 29, 2021. 6:30 PM. Webinar: Status and Future of New Jersey Tidal Marshes in the Face of Sea Level Rise. Judith Weis, Rutgers University, Newark. Sponsored by Rutgers Cooperative Extension. Flyer here. Register here.

This talk will summarize a report completed for the Science Advisory Board of NJDEP in which we analyzed four major marsh systems (Hackensack Meadowlands, Raritan Bay, Barnegat Bay, and Delaware Bay) that had been studied for horizontal changes (changes in marsh extent) and vertical changes (elevation changes). The majority of NJ marshes are not keeping pace with the rate of sea level rise. We discuss four potential remedies: marsh migration pathways, rethinking Phragmites management, sediment manipulation, and living shorelines.
